Bhaisajyaguru, Medicine Buddha

The Medicine Buddha, Bhaiṣajyaguru, is depicted seated in monastic robes, holding a lapis-colored jar of healing nectar and an Aruna fruit branch. This compassionate Buddha, described in the Medicine Buddha Sutra, made twelve great vows after enlightenment. He’s revered for physical and mental healing and world peace. His image is placed in the north or northeast of one’s home to seek blessings for health or relief from illness.
